University Archives & Historical Collections (UAHC) welcomes all researchers to its facilities. The reading room is open to everyone without a fee, and professional archivists are available to provide research assistance. UAHC is the most comprehensive source for information on the history and culture of Michigan State University.

Researchers do not need to make an appointment, but if you are traveling from a distant location, it is typically a good idea to call ahead. UAHC sometimes has special closings. If we know you will be visiting, we can have materials waiting for you when you arrive.

Visiting researchers are required to complete a registration form in order to access our materials. This form also includes instructions for using our reading room. The registration form can be completed prior to your visit and emailed to us. Upon your arrival at the archives, a valid identification card will be required.

Looking for a place to stay while you are doing research at the archives? Check out MSU's lodging page or East Lansing's page for a few options. The University Archives does not provide any specific recommendations.

If you are unable to visit the University Archives to research and select historical material, please ask us about our hourly research fee. As staffing allows, the University Archives can assist in the research and identification of specific inquiries. The University Archives charges $25 per half hour increments ($50 per hour). There is a minimum of $25 for this service. Please note that a payment of $25.00 is required before we can begin the research.
