Biographical Note
George Marriott (born around 1803) was convicted on March 24, 1832 in Warwick, England of an offense against the game laws and given a sentence of transportation for 7 years. He was from Coventry and was a carpenter. Marriott was taken to Australia on the Hercules(4) in 1832. A certificate of freedom was delivered to him on May 9, 1839. The collection contains a document issued by the Colonial Secretary's Office, New South Wales, Australia, authorizing Marriott, a convict, to seek employment.
